According to Urban Dictionary, Hip-Hop is made up of 5 elements: B-Boying (breakdance), MC-ing, DJ-ing, Knowledge culture and overstanding (knowledge and intelligence.
Its original purpose is to spread the word of peace, unity, and having fun through the.many Elements of Hip-Hip culture.(Universal Zulu Nation) According to the Article titled: "Partner violence in Hip-Hop," Hip-Hop's culture originated in South Bronx, New York and has grown in popularity since 1979. In the early 1990's, hip hop became more mainstreamed. The transformation of its meaning began to be misconstrued for the promotion of sex and gun violence. A majority of people believed it caused a rise of crimes and extreme damage to a majority of many young generations in urban communities.
Christian Hip-Hip has been around since the early 1980"s With artist's such as New York's D-Boy Danny Rodriguez, MC Sweet ,IDOLS for Christ, Soup the Chemist with SFC, and Peace 586, Just to name a few. They helped pave the way for some of the CHH Artist you see today.
Christian Hip-Hip is very different from that of the "mainstream" or secular genre because its original purpose was for spreading the gospel and for the edification of the church.
Because something has a broad timeline, does it ever die??
We should never do away with history because we can always learn something from it. Especially when one adds Christ to Hip-Hip. Anything that has Christ in it, is no where near dead. Jesus took the keys from death and now we have eternal life through His death, burial and resurrection. John 14:6 kjv says I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes to the father but by me." I would like to encourage the Christian Hip-Hip artist from the present and the past with Collosians 3:23 which says: Whatsoever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for human masters." This means that just because the world says that something is no longer popular, doesn't mean that you can't still produce christian hip-hop. We are not here to please man, we are here to draw them to Jesus Christ. Be encouraged, keep working to please the Lord.
